The Theme Is…

Hello dear writer! Sally Port Magazine, our fantasy magazine featuring clean fantasy for the whole family, comes out every quarter. And, each issue has a theme. Officially, the plan was to announce the next round of themes in June. But guess what… We’re doing it today! For those wanting to submit to Sally Port, it’s a great idea to fit your story with an appropriate theme. But here’s a secret: it doesn’t have to be an exact match; what matters is that your story matches the theme in some way.
For example, the stories in this month’s sudden turns issue don’t all have to have twists at the end. A lot do, but the important part is that there’s a moment in the story that changes everything. July’s making the choice issue is about making choices. It doesn’t matter who’s making it or what the specific choice is.

January 2026: Second chances (and other firsts)
April 2026: Into (and out of) the storm
July 2026: Long days (even at night)
October 2026: Death… (And life!)

How you match your story to the theme is up to you. Second chances might mean redemption, or it might mean a resubmitted story (we have had a few of those…) Into the storm might mean literal wind and rain, but it also might mean a highschool prom (Just make sure there’s magic/fantasy elements in that prom…). Death doesn’t necessarily mean undead, but it might…
