Hello Writers, Readers, and Other Word People
It’s easy to get sucked into other worlds, especially if we work there (and often more or less live there for large spans of time!). But, every once in a while, it’s a good idea to pull back from our created worlds and actually live.
Some folks out there were expecting me to say “spend time with family” or “enjoy the holidays.” You can do those things, but I’m not proscribing them (seriously, you can do them, but the why part matters). What I’m saying is, take time to live. Be in the moment. Do things you like doing but rarely get around to (see, for some of you, that includes spending time with family).
According to Healthline (https://www.healthline.com/health/exercise-fitness/rest-day) rest is just as important as workouts to physical health and strength. It matters for learning and mental health too (I mentioned that last month). It allows us to recuperate and do things better.
Getting away from our work (and into the “real” world) helps us get rest and gain perspective. It’s an opportunity for new discoveries that can change the way we work for the better.
Thanksgiving is coming up next week. Christmas and New Year are right around the corner. There’s an opportunity in front of us to take a little time to put down the pen and get into life. To quote Patton (again) “Break through their lines and do something…!”
I know how hard it is (my last vacation lasted 45 minutes…), but I also know it’s worth doing. Because we’re encouraging our people to take a little time, the blog will go quiet for December and pick up with new and better content in January.
Take a little time to live. I’ll see you next post.
